A few of my finalized projects…

Project: Digital Compositing

In this digital compositing project, I was driven by the desire to capture the essence of my inner selves interacting despite societal pressures. I wanted the images to feel real yet dream-like and odd, similar to the randomness of a dream that feels vividly real. Inspired by a lyric about staying true to oneself, I explored the complexity of identity, especially for women. I created personas blending reality and surrealism to reflect the subconscious mind.

Project: Shes That Girl

My goal for this project was to appropriate the color schemes and iconic visuals from 60’s teen magazines, creating content that resonates more authentically to the experience of girlhood. Some images focus on isolation, performance, transformation, and other things that felt anxious but equally important. I favored the scrapbook magazine style compositions and this inspiration guided my visual concepts.

Project: Briar Rose

"The genuine and pure Feminine is,

above all, a chaste and bright Energy, which brings with it courage, idealism and happiness.

[...] The feminine symbolizes the aspect of being which draws together and unifies"

Project: Non-Self

This project is deeply inspired by the Buddhist concepts of impermanence (anicca) and non-self (anattã). These ideas challenge Western notations of individuality and consistency, inviting viewers to question their relationship to their personal identity. I examine the ego as a construct- something we are conditioned to see as the self, made up of thoughts, hobbies, or physical traits. I captured surreal-looking scenes while maintaining a constant presence of natural visual elements, blending them with found imagery from various media.

Through the use of collage, recontextualizing subjects, and low shutter photography, this work embodies these principles of impermanence. The collage format allows me to dismantle and rebuild the self-image, mirroring the constant transformation that is subject to all living and non-living things. The human body is central to this work, serving as a visual motif for the vessel which experiences such mental transformations, such as acknowledging impermanence and the non-self. My goal is to provoke a deeper reflection and a contemplative space to reconsider the nature of individuality.
